Thanks to Nancy, Kettner, the Leisure Lutherans of Hope held their annual Christmas luncheon and Chinese Auction on Monday, December 16, at the Black Angus Restaurant, located in the Clubhouse at the beautiful Virginia Beach National Golf Course. Thirty-four Leisure Lutherans enjoyed beautiful weather and a delicious spectrum of food offered on the regular menu. Most everyone participated in the Chinese Auction following the meal, and as usual, there was considerable haggling amongst the most prized gifts–but, everyone came away with at least…a gift!  Pastor Nieting was kind enough to bring his guitar and lead us in a cheery session of Christmas carols following the auction.  I must say, we lifted the holiday spirits of the group, as well as the Black Angus staff.  Our road show is being contemplated for next Christmas!
Plans for our January 2014 meeting were set for Monday, Jan. 20,  at 11:30am at Frankie’s Place for Ribs in Fairfield Shopping Center.  A sign up sheet and flyer will be placed in the Narthex. We are always looking for new members to join in on the fun. If you feel like you are a senior—come on down!
Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy, and prosperous 2014 to All!

The Leisure Lutherans met at the Ocean View Golf Course clubhouse at the Norfolk ocean front on Oct. 21, for our annual Oktoberfest luncheon. Enjoying the beautiful weather, a crowd of 33 seniors attended for great German food, companionship and conversation. Pastor Nieting served as our emcee and also administered a Lutheran historical quiz to prepare us for next Sunday’s Reformation Day celebration!

Thanks go to Paul and Joanne Graebner for setting up today’s event. This was our first official luncheon for the 2013-2014 season. A secret nomination is being floated for a new person to fill the vacant chair for leading the organization! More news to follow at our November luncheon that is planned for Nov. 18 in the Fellowship Hall at Hope. Pollard’s Chicken will cater this event. Carroll Bains will present a video and Q & A session supporting Patriot Paws Service Dogs for Disabled Veterans.

All those who feel they are senior citizens are cordially invited to join us. A sign-up sheet for the next meeting will be posted on our podium in the Narthex.

This senior group (50+) needs a leader to arrange the monthly luncheons and act as host at each event. Established in 1999 as the Seniors Ministry of Hope, the Leisure Lutherans Mission includes: 1. Christian fellowship for the seniors at Hope; 2. Christian outreach and care for seniors both in and outside Hope; 3. Entertainment suitable for our age group; 4. Education on senior matters. There is no formal Charter, Constitution, or By-Laws. It is an informal group operating very informally with a minimal, free-will budget. The group meets the 3rd Monday each month for lunch (except July & August). For more info, call the office (424-4848).

The final Leisure Luncheon before summer begins was at the Providence Square Grill on Monday, June 17.  We had a large turnout. Everyone enjoyed the fellowship before we all departed to the four corners of the U.S. for the summer. There will be no luncheons in July or August.

In May, elections were held to fill the Chairperson, Hospitality and Publicity positions. As of June, the only position not filled was the new Chairperson beginning in September 2013.

Unless someone steps up to the plate, there will be no meeting in September, etc.. If  anyone wants to take over the leadership of the Leisure Lutherans please contact Rollie Soderholm for details.

Keep the Leisure Lutherans in your prayers and that the Lord has the right person to lead the group.
