AWAKEN HOPE FUNDING TEAM UPDATE:  The team has been hard at work since mid-January. We have submitted two grant requests that were awarded for live streaming equipment:  one for $5,000 from the LCMS Southeastern District and one for $1,000 from the Lutheran Church Extension Fund.  We also sent out letters to Senior Pastors, Worship and Outreach/Mission Directors of the 30 largest LCMS churches and the 100 fastest growing churches in the country. We have received a $2,000 gift from one LCMS congregation and an offer for technical expertise/guidance from the worship director of a church in Texas.  On June 4, we received verbal confirmation that our grant request for $5,000 to the Chesapeake District of the LWML has been approved to be voted on for priority funding at the convention in September. This request will support our mission outreach with the new services. Currently, we are finalizing our proposal summary to the Lutheran Church Extension Fund Kaleidoscope Grant Program. This proposal is for a new summer camp experience projected for the summer of 2019. If you have any questions about these proposals or know of other funding opportunities, please contact Don Meyer at meyerdcm@cox.net or Alison Hernandez at aehusna86@cox.net.

YOUTH NEWS

LETTER TO ALL YOUTH PARENTS

Dear Parents,

As we depend upon our Savior Jesus and His life, death and resurrection to sustain us physically and spiritually, it is crucial to make sure that our kids receive the Holy Communion consistently and declare, “Christ gave His Body and Blood for me.”  Jesus commands us to focus on Him as He said in 1 Corinthians 11:25, “Do this in remembrance of me.”

As an opportunity for the Youth to keep this command and in order to keep the service running without interruption, we are planning to serve the Holy Communion (after it has been consecrated by the pastors) at the Youth Service in The Loft on the 2nd & 4th Sundays of each month.

The Youth Leader will read the Words of Institution before the youth receive the Lord’s Supper. This is the same process we follow with our brothers and sisters in Christ who are shut-ins or hospitalized and are eager to receive Holy Communion and remember our Savior Jesus Christ and His work in our lives. We are blessed to share Jesus’ love with them and to serve them.

Please encourage your youth to attend the Youth Service and receive the Lord’s Supper. You are also welcome to join them!

We are excited to start our Youth Service Project to reach out to the homeless. “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord: and that which he hath given will he pay him again”. (Proverbs 19:17) We plan to make 100-150 Blessing Bags on Wednesday nights for a couple of weeks. When the bags are ready, each church family will be asked to take one bag and share it with the homeless. Encourage your youth to attend Oasis at 6:30pm on Wednesday evenings in The Loft. It’s a wonderful opportunity for devotional time, hangout with friends, meet new youth from other churches who are invited to join us the summer and to serve God by serving others. Our Teen Ministry enjoys the youth who God has called us to serve. Thank you for sharing your youth with us. God bless!

Joyfully in Christ, Deaconess Camelia Eid

YOUTH OASIS is at 6:30pm on Wednesdays. Come for an evening of games, hangout, discussion and fellowship. All youth are welcome.

YOUTH SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES: Sign-up during Sunday School – Volunteer in the food pantry, 2nd & 4th Wednesdays & Saturdays of each month.
