Hope Lutheran Church, a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, was started in 1976 by a group of Christians looking to serve Hampton Roads. Our faith in Jesus is our hope, like an anchor, in a world that is often unpredictable and disheartening.
Our purpose at Hope Lutheran Church is to be a Family of Christ that is focused on growing our faith and expanding the Kingdom of God. We are dedicated to Worshiping God, Learning His Word, Serving others, and Seeking the lost.
We are dedicated to saving and changing lives by the grace of God in Jesus through biblically sound and culturally relevant evangelism, discipleship, worship, prayer, ministry, and fellowship.
We believe in the Holy Trinity and that the three persons of the Trinity are coequal and coeternal, one God.
The Father: Creator of all that exists.
Jesus Christ: The Son, who became human to suffer and die for the sins of all human beings and to rise to life again.
The Holy Spirit: Who creates faith through God’s Word and Sacraments.
We believe in the divine inspiration of the Bible, that it is the true and inspired word of God. We believe that the Bible is our standard for life, and its truth, integrity, and relevance is of utmost importance. The Bible is not just a book, but a living guide, full of God’s wisdom and guidance. Through scripture, we learn about God’s character, how to live and act, and how to grow in our spiritual journey. We believe that by reading and studying the Bible, we are able to draw closer to God and deepen our understanding of His love.
The Bible is God’s word to us, containing everything we need to know about life and faith.
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
There is Hope in Jesus: Jesus Christ, both God and human, lived a sinless life on Earth over 2,000 years ago. He willingly died on the cross and rose again, conquering death and offering us hope.
To be forgiven and draw closer to God, we must trust that Jesus Christ's sacrifice was for us personally.
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)
We believe in the power of prayer, both individually and corporately, as an expression of faith in God's work in our lives. Prayer is an essential part of a Christian life and is used to talk to God and to communicate with Him. We pray for guidance, strength, healing, protection, and for our families, friends, and community. Through prayer, we seek to deepen our understanding of God's will and His plans for our lives. Praying helps us grow closer to God and to gain a better understanding of His will and how we can best serve Him. When we pray, we open ourselves up to God and He will answer us in His own way and in His own time. Prayer is a beautiful and powerful way to communicate with our Heavenly Father and to seek His love and guidance.
As an LCMS Lutheran church, we follow the Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther that inspired the reformation of the Christian Church in the 16th Century.

We are saved not by our good deeds but by His Grace alone. “Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” (Romans 3:24).
Jesus was the substitute for all people of all time. By His suffering and death, He purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for them. God’s Word says that we are saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus and not by our own efforts of works (Ephesians 2:8-9)
The Bible is God’s inerrant and infallible Word. Through it, God shows us our desperate need for saving and reveals Jesus Christ as that Savior. It is the only place we look for what to believe - not politics, traditions, or human reason.
